Jeweling
Engraving \ Wood Checkering \ Jeweling
An engine-turned finish on selected parts can considerably add to the appearance
and value of a firearm. Frequently known as Jeweling or Damascening (after the
ornamentation found on old Damascus blades), engine turning imparts a rich finish.
Jeweling is an abrasive process in which a stiff paste of oil and emery flour
is applied to the part. A small, circular polishing head running at medium speed
is then brought into contact with the surface. The amount of pressure applied and
duration of contact depends largely on the surface, metal, and type of polishing
head used.
